The domains serve as a comprehensive guide to organizing and managing organizational structures within the cloud environment. Domains are essential for structuring user access, resource allocation, and administrative controls, providing a hierarchical framework for efficient management of cloud resources. By leveraging domains effectively, organizations can establish clear boundaries, delineate administrative responsibilities, and maintain robust security postures within their cloud infrastructure.
This section explores the fundamental concepts and practices associated with domain management, including domain creation, configuration, and association. It explores how domains facilitate centralized administration, delegation of responsibilities, and the enforcement of access controls. This empowers organizations to customize their cloud environment to meet specific business requirements. This chapter equips users with the knowledge and tools necessary to harness the full potential of domain-based management in our IaaS Cloud environment.
Adding a new domain involves the following steps:
1. Navigate to Domains on the left navigation bar.
2. Here, you can view the hierarchical structure of all your domains. To add a new domain, click on the Add domain button in the top row:
3. Now, you have to specify the following parameters:
4. Click on OK to save your settings and create the new domain.
5. Your newly created domain should now be visible under the tree structure of your main domain:
Navigating to Domains gives you an overview of all created domains within your IaaS Cloud environment. Here, you can select specific domains from the domain list to interact with or monitor the resources. The module is divided into three sections: the action block (1.) on the top right, the domain block (2.) on the left, and the management block (3.) on the right.
The action block appears in the first row and includes these essential functionalities:
Below the action block, on the left column, is the domain block. Here, you can list and navigate through all domains created in your cloud environment. Simply select a specific domain from the list to interact with or monitor that domain in particular.
Next to the domain block is the management block, which offers various views and functionalities for your domains, divided into the following sections:
Our IaaS Cloud maintains usage information for network, storage, and instances for each domain individually. If you want to update these resource counts manually, you can do so with the following steps:
1. Navigate to Domains on the left navigation bar.
2. Select a specific domain from the domain list view:
3. Click on Update resource count in the right top action toolbar:
4. Confirm your decision to update by clicking OK and the resource count will refresh to the latest data.
Our IaaS Cloud lets admin users configure the limits of each domain in their environment. Configured limits put a ceiling on the resource usage of that domain; however, the account and user limits within that domain remain active. To configure the limits of a particular domain, follow these steps:
1. Navigate to Domains on the left navigation bar.
2. Select a specific domain from the list view.
3. Switch to the Configure limits tab in the right management block:
4. Here, you can set limits for the following parameters:
The default value of -1 shows that there is no limit in place.
5. Click on Submit to save the new limits for your domain.
Finally, if the usage of a domain is no longer needed, it can, of course, be deleted. However, be aware that every account, user, and resource associated with that domain will also be removed. If you are sure you want to delete a domain, follow these steps:
1. Navigate to Domains on the left navigation bar.
2. Select a specific domain from the list view.
3. Click on Delete domain in the right top action toolbar:
4. Optionally, you can select Clean up to directly expunge the accounts and resources attached to the domain.
5. Confirm your decision by clicking OK and your domain will be deleted.
The process takes up to 24 hours from when your domain is closed to when the resources are actually deleted. It is advisable to remove all your resources manually before deleting your domain. If needed, a closed domain can be reactivated upon your request during that time.
